Dr. Sharat Pani, President

Sharat has over 60 peer reviewed publications in the field of clinical pediatric dentistry and special care dentistry. His research interests center around the biopsychosocial model of disease and seek to combine the fields of epidemiology, behaviour sciences and clinical pediatric dentistry.

 

Dr. Drew Smith, President Elect and Chair, Student Representation Committee

Drew graduated from Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1993 and went on to complete his MSc degree in orthodontics from Marquette University in 1996. He established his specialty orthodontic practice in London, Ontario in 1996 and also serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University. 

 

Dr. Jennifer Archibald, BSc, DDS, Cert. Ped., MPH, FRCDC, Dip. ABPD, Secretary

Jennifer obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Western University in 2017. Afterward, she pursued a General Practice Residency in hospital and special care dentistry at the University of Michigan, where she provided care for people with disabilities. After working as a general dentist, Jennifer returned to school for specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Harvard University.

 

Professor Shauna Hachey, Dip DH, BDH, MHS, RDH, Treasurer

Shauna is a licensed dental hygienist with over 18 years of clinical experience, and an Associate Professor in the School of Dental Hygiene, Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University. She is the co-lead of the Dalhousie Healthy Populations Institute Putting “Oral Health is Health” into Action flagship project, which is committed to improving the oral and overall health status of Nova Scotians and aims to enhance oral care strategies and accessibility through interdisciplinary research.

 

Dr. Ramaa Balkaran, DDS (UWI), DD (Cert. KY), MPH (Liv) MDTFEd, Chair, Research and Education Committee

Ramaa is a dental professional, educator, and researcher with a passion for creating positive change in oral healthcare.  She earned a Master's degree in Public Health from University of Liverpool, has certified training in International Developmental Dentistry from The University of Louisville School of Dentistry, and is currently enrolled as a Doctoral Researcher in the Doctoral Program in Oral Sciences (FINDOS-Turku) at the University of Turku.

 

Afifa Eidher, Dip DH, BHSc, DHP(C), Chair, Membership Committee

Afifa is a Dental Hygiene practitioner with nearly 30 years of experience in clinical care, professional development, and organizational leadership, currently employed as the Program and Innovation Manager for the BC Dental Hygienist Association. Her strong clinical foundation informs her work across operations, finance, sponsorship, member benefits, and stakeholder engagement.  Known for her collaborative and innovative leadership, Afifa is deeply committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

 

Dr. Ali Ardestani, Student Representation Committee Member

Ali is a dedicated advocate for equitable oral health care. He combines clinical practice with graduate studies as a Master of Science candidate in Epidemiology at the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health. A graduate of Tehran Azad University, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2021, graduating as valedictorian and top-ranked student of his class.

 

Professor Cheryl Arntson, RDH, Faculty Champion University of Alberta, Special Olympics Committee Member

Cheryl is an Associate Clinical Professor and the Dental Hygiene External Community Coordinator at the University of Alberta’s Mike Petryk School of Dentistry.  With over three decades of clinical experience, Cheryl’s teaching and research center on modifying care for populations with complex medical and social needs.

 

Dr. Sujit Pradhan, Fellowship Committee Member

Sujit is a clinician, educator, and advocate dedicated to advancing oral health care for individuals with disabilities.  A CSDH member since its inception, he actively promotes equity and inclusion in dentistry.

 

Dr. Maria Salome Lomlomdjian, One-Year Appointment

Maria Salome is a General Dentist with over 20 years of experience providing comprehensive care in General Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Senior Care, and Special Care Dentistry. Her expertise includes Hospital Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Restorative and Palliative Dentistry, Laser Dentistry, and treatments under General Anaesthesia.
